Emphasis is on high-quality production to

drive business efficiency.

imageFORMULA DR-G1100imageFORMULA DR-G1100Canon Europe has launched two high-speed A3 production scanners designed to allow organisations to process high volumes of documents quickly and reliably. The new imageFORMULA DR-G1100 and DR-G1130 are particularly aimed at centralised scanning application departments, such as digital mailrooms in corporate organisations, and specialised scanning bureaus. Canon believes they will also appeal to corporate organisations in the financial services, legal or healthcare sectors that need to capture and convert larger volumes of documents for digital processing and archiving.

The imageFORMULA DR-G1100and DR-G1130production scanners have been launched as successors to Canon’s imageFORMULA DR-6050C, DR-7550C and DR-9050C scanner models. The new scanners have impressive scanning speeds of up to 200ipm and 260ipm respectively, and both feature a 500-sheet automatic document feeder for processing larger volumes of documents in a single operation. Both new machines incorporate higher durability feed rollers, and the models have a suggested daily duty cycle of up to 25,000 and 30,000 scans respectively. Canon said that this performance is supported by a dedicated processing chip that helps maintain full-rated scanning speeds even when multiple image processing functions are selected.

An interesting feature enables users to process a wider range of document types thanks to a new flat paper feeding path, scanning from ultra-thin paper (20gsm) to thick card (255gsm), and using the folio mode feature users can even scan A1 sized documents. The feeding mechanism has three selectable feeding modes to cater for scanning batches of various document types. Staple detection sensors are also incorporated to help prevent any damage to documents, while a continuous manual feeding mode allows convenient controlled feeding to users when handling difficult documents and ensures smooth, productive scanning.

Sean Suematsu, European Document Scanning Solutions Director at Canon Europe, commented, “Streamlining the processing and distribution of information by converting paper documents to digital remains a critical area of focus for organisations looking to increase their productivity and reduce costs. That’s why many organisations that need to manage larger volumes of paper-based information are implementing ‘digital mailrooms’ where documents can be scanned and processed more efficiently. Fast and reliable scanning is crucial in those demanding environments. We’re responding to this need with the introduction of two high-quality production scanners replacing our successful imageFORMULA DR-6050C, DR-7550C and DR-9050C models with enhancements in speed, paper feeding and daily duty cycles.”

Other features of the imageFORMULA DR-G1100 and DR-G1130 include character emphasis for improved OCR recognition, and multistream output for dual output format processing. The scanners also have a range of optional features including a post-imprinter, barcode module and patch code decoder for additional control and automation.

Both scanners’ functionality can be extended further by connecting to Canon’s imageFORMULA Flatbed Scanner Unit 201or 101 for scanning A3 or A4 bound materials and books.
